Anna Torfs was born in 1967 in Belgium. After studying interior design at the Sint-Lukas School for Architecture in Brussels, she moved to the Czech Republic where she specialised in stage design and worked as a freelance furniture and glass designer. Anna began designing her own glass collections in 2002.
The ability of glass to capture, reflect and absorb light is the central theme in Anna’s work. Transparency and translucency are not always identical. Colour is critical, evoking strong emotions; colours should be “true”. Cutting through the object like an anatomist, Anna reveals layer after layer to show how an object is built. These unconventional cutting techniques also reveal the contrast between the vibrant centre and the sober “skin” of her objects.
Anna Torfs Edition: Most pieces in this collection are based on geometric shapes that undergo intense manipulation. Pronounced colours and sharp cuts are applied to create dynamic, energetic pieces. Other pieces originate from a freer approach to shape, resulting in minimalist yet wonderfully sensual pieces. This collection is produced in editions and each piece is numbered.
Energy and sensuality pulse through this numbered edition collection.
Anna Torfs Limited Series: Anna’s work is infused with her wonder at how the techniques of glass blowing, cutting and sanding – which have hardly changed over the past 200 years – can lead to contemporary objects. To achieve this, Anna has developed new techniques together with great glass masters, bringing fresh and surprising creations to an old tradition.
The Limited Series collection is the quintessential proof of the mastery of both the designer and the glass masters. Unprecedented colour combinations, shapes, cuts and other techniques are used to create these unique pieces.
