Bodil Manz (°1943, Denmark ) is without any doubt one of the world's most outstanding ceramists. Her work, which is of a startling simplicity and modernism, has been received everywhere with great admiration and enthusiasm. The list of awards and exhibitions is endless. Last year Bodil Manz received one of the most prestigious prizes in the world, the Grand Prize on the 4 th World Ceramic Biennale in Korea .

Bodil Manz currently works in cast porcelain, high-fired at 1300 degrees. The shape is often a cylinder or forms derived from it. The decoration is applied as a transfer, which melts into the raw body. And in the resulting transparency the outer and inner decoration become one. There is a masterly interaction between the frail, precise vessels and the abstract–geometrical decoration, no matter whether she makes use of a delicate line drawing or strong, large fields of colour. The last stage of the creative process is the firing, where the artist gives her work out of hands, allowing the fire to alter the shape and line of the vessel. Sometimes this alteration is barely perceptible, while at other times the whole form torques into a subtle, liquid undulation or slumps slightly to soften the line.
